Stuart Thomas

Your Liberal Democrat Candidate for Astley Mosley Common

Giving you your say, on what matters to you

Stuart ThomasIt's no secret that people in Astley Mosley Common don't feel associated with Wigan. Wigan Council have long neglected the area, where investment has been unfairly placed into other parts of the borough, Astley has been left behind.

As your councillor I would fight to change this. I would fight for the introduction of a local area committee to Astley Mosley Common. Where local people and local businesses will have a direct voice to your councillor.

As your Liberal Democrat councillor I will not roll-over in the council chamber, but instead fight the battle. Another Labour councillor is just another voice for our already complacent council, another Labour councillor will not make a difference to Ashley Mosley Common.

As you councillor I would:

  • Fight for the introduction of local area committees, giving a voice back to the people of Astley Mosley Common.
  • Stand up to protect the green belt from further housing development, without first utilising brownfield land in other parts of the borough.
  • Lobby for better public transport within the area, serving those who rely on it the most; those without cars and the elderly.

Protect our Green belt

Stuart Thomas on the doorstepI have lived in the borough all my life, and I remember it always being a beautiful place to live. I also recognise the need for more housing, but with hundreds of brownfield sites available it's hard to see that the council has exhausted every avenue before committing to destroying our local environment.

Further building is a very real possibility for Astley Mosley Common, at a very real cost to the area. Increased traffic, increased pollution and loss of green belt are now a growing concern.

A Liberal Democrats councillor will stand up for Astley Mosley Common and help prevent any loss of green belt in our area.

Improve transport

Despite the introduction of the guided bus route, Astley Mosley Common still remains cut off from the borough and its services. Those that rely the most on public transport, those without cars, have no use for a park and ride system.

It is also becoming obvious, that as building will continue for new houses within the area the current transport links and roads are not fit to handle the inevitable extension.

As your Liberal Democrat candidate, I pledge to focus on road access and buses routes allowing regular services, particularly to health centres, shopping and other services around the borough.

"I want to bring the voice of Astley Mosley Common back to its residents, let its people have their say and not restrict it to the autocracy of Wigan Council."
