Neil Stevenson

Your Liberal Democrat Candidate for Orrell

Neil joined the Liberal Democrats in 2017 to stop Brexit. He is the local party secretary and agent. Neil is campaigning for better local transport links. He wants to see greater supporting infrastructure for local communities to offset the impact of new housing developments including more shops, schools, parks and recreational areas for young people. Neil has lived in Wigan for forty-five years, is married and has five children, all born in Billinge Hospital. He is a keen walker and reads extensively. He has been a season ticket holder for over twenty years at Wigan Little Theatre and supports Wigan Athletic.

Neil worked for forty years in IT, initially for the Health Service in Liverpool and then with ICL and Fujitsu where he held a number of senior roles including director of technology innovation and director of global services investment. He was a non-executive director of Kainos and Meridio in Belfast. During his career, Neil travelled extensively and lived for two years in the Middle East. He was a member of the North West Business Leadership Team and volunteered with the Prince of Wales' charity, Mosaic. Neil was also a governor at St John Rigby Sixth Form College for twenty years.

Since retiring, Neil has been active with the U3A. He was chair of Up Holland and District U3A and helped to form the U3A in Wigan. For three years he chaired the North West Region of U3As. Presently, he chairs the national working group improving diversity in the U3A movement.
